Raynaud's disease causes coldness, bluish skin, and tingling in hands and feet, less often in ears and lips. The pain and bothersome symptoms degrade quality of life for those affected.
Not everyone is aware of Raynaud's disease, but it affects 5-10% of the population. Surprisingly, it mainly affects young people aged 15 to 45. Studies show it occurs four times more often in women than men.
It can affect people working in diverse jobs—from pianists and office workers to cold storage staff and mining machine operators.
Common symptoms of Raynaud's include cold sensations, cyanosis, and tingling in hands and feet. It is caused by arterial spasms that impede oxygen-rich venous blood flow. The accompanying pain and symptoms reduce quality of life.
Augustów Health Resort, the only facility in Poland, runs a Raynaud's diagnostic and rehabilitation program with experts from the Medical University of Białystok.
At the Medical University of Białystok's Rehabilitation Clinic, a non-pharmacological therapy program for Raynaud's led by Prof. Anna Kurliszyn-Moskal, head of the clinic, has been developed. Alongside microcirculation diagnostics, a three-week rehabilitation treatment cycle is offered. Results show significant pain reduction and fewer attacks. This treatment has been available since January 2017 at the Augustów Health Resort. It is a unique, innovative European project for non-drug treatment of Raynaud's symptoms.
